Kensley's Birth Story

I went to my last check up and my midwife offered to strip my membranes. I told her I would like that because I really feel like she is ready to make her appearance. I had contractions the whole way home and the rest of the day. I woke up the next morning and still had contractions but they weren't consistent so I just kept going on with my day. Dev and I took the kids to the park and I noticed my contractions were still not consistent but they were getting stronger and lasting longer. We decided to go into the hospital just to get checked. They checked me and I was only dilated to a 3. They monitored me for an hour and then came in and said that the baby kept having dips in her heart rate. They said they were going to keep me due to that. I really wanted a natural delivery so I asked if they could just try breaking my water before starting me on pitocin. The midwife agreed that that was a good idea so she broke my water. I started walking around and my contractions really picked up and were really strong. I was thinking to myself that if the contractions were already this strong there is no way I could continue on without an epidural. The midwife decided to check me again and I was an 8 (no wonder the contractions were so strong)! My midwife encouraged me to get on the bed and maybe kneel up against the headrest. As soon as I did that I had a really strong contraction and Devin applied counter pressure to my back. The next contraction I felt an overwhelming amount of pressure. I felt like it was time to push! I stayed in the kneeling position and pushed twice with each contraction and she was out. I heard her cry and it was the most beautiful sound in the world. I had done it-- I got my natural birth! I thought to myself, I wish I would have gone natural with my other births. They laid her down on my chest and I began to cry because she was perfect! She didn't have breathing problems and I was able to hold her instead of the nurses rushing her away from me. Then, everything went wrong! The midwife said she couldn't stop my bleeding they kept poking me and just rushing every movement. I felt so much pain I had to ask for medication. They put demerol in my IV and I immediately started feeling loopy. Devin and the nurses kept asking if I was alright and still present. I could hear everything that was going on the medication just made me want to fall asleep. I felt really light and just in la la land. Devin said he was really nervous because there was blood everywhere. It took longer for them to work on me than my whole labor and birth put together. They finally got the blood to stop and got me stitched up ( I had a small tear from the birth). They handed Kensley back to me and she immediately latched on to my breast. I was completely amazed at the whole process. The nurses and midwife left Dev and I alone for a whole hour so we could bond with Kensley. Devin took Kensley after she was done eating and had skin to skin with her too. We then called everyone and let them know we welcomed a baby girl into the world.
